CHOLECYSTECTOMY

Cholecystectomy is an operation to remove the gallbladder. The primary reason for Cholecystectomy is gallstones & pain. Gallstones are small “rocks” of cholesterol, bilirubin & protein that form the inside of the gallbladder.

Gallstones can block the release of bile out of the Gallbladder. This blockage can cause pain and jaundice. Because gallstones can’t be removed without taking out the gallbladder, both the stones and the gallbladder are removed during the operation. The gallbladder is not an essential organ and you will do well after Cholecystectomy.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is preferable to open surgery because the incision is smaller, recovery time is quicker, and less pain medication is required.
APPENDECTOMY

Appendectomy

Appendectomy
Appendectomy is an operation to remove the appendix for the treatment of Appendicitis. Appendicitis is inflammation or infection of the appendix. When appendix is treated promptly, most patients recover without difficulty. If treatment is delayed, the appendix can burst, causing infection and even death. Appendicitis is the most common acute surgical emergency of the abdomen.

Laparoscopy Appendectomy benefits patients with a faster recovery and shorter hospital stay, but limited strenuous activity may still be necessary for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.

SPLENECTOMY

A variety of chronic illnesses, such as Hereditary Spherocytosis or Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, may make it necessary to remove your Spleen. Spleen removal is called Splenectomy. In most cases, a Splenectomy (provided the spleen is not enlarged in size) can be performed laparoscopically.
MYOTOMY FOR ACHALASIA CARDIA

Achalasia cardia refers most commonly to esophageal achalasia, which is a neuromuscular disorder of the esophagus characterized by the reduced ability to move the food down the esophagus. In addition the inability of the cardia (lower esophageal sphincter) – to relax in response to swallowing. Laparoscopic Heller myotomy is a form of surgery in which the muscles of the cardia are cut, aloowing food/liquid to pass to the stomach.

NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION

Nissen Fundoplication

Nissen Fundoplication
When drug treatments are not satisfactory, GERD can also be treated with a form of surgery called Nissen Fundoplication. It takes the top portion of the stomach (the “fundus”) and wraps it around the lower end of the esophagus and the lower esophageal sphincter. This increases the pressure at the lower end of the esophagus and creates a one way valve, which allows food to pass into the stomach, but prevents stomach acid from flowing into the esophagus and causing GERD.
