CONGENITAL HEART DISEASES
Acyanotic heart disease
Atrial Septal Defect - Symptoms
Generally
asymptomatic may cause fatigue, dyspnea with exertion, history
of frequent respiratory infections and heart failure. |
Treatment
|
Spontaneous closure in small percentage.
Management of congestive heart failure.
Surgical closure with cardio-pulmonary bypass (open heart surgery). |

| Ventricular Septal Defect(VSD) |
Symptoms
|
| Usually asymptomatic, sever PDA causes
decreased exercise tolerance; frequent respiratory infections,
dyspnea, pulmonary congestion leading to heart failure. |

Treatment
|
| Surgical division of the PDA (closed
heart surgery to ligate the ductus). |
| |
| Aortic Valvular Stenosis |
Symptoms
|
| Generally asymptomatic the child may
have decreased exercise tolerance with sever obstruction the
child may have dyspnea and generalized cyanosis. May complain
of chest pain. |

Treatment
|
| Surgery Valvulotomy |

| Coarctation of Aorta |
Symptoms
|
| Usually asymptomatic in child hood.
May demonstrate occasional fatigue, headache, dizziness, nose
bleeds, leg cramps, cold feet, absent peripheral pulses, bounding
carotid pulse, sever anomalies may cause growth failure, tachypnea
(increased respiratory rate), dyspnea (Difficulty in breathing),
peripheral edema. |

Treatment
|
Management of Congestive Heart failure.
Surgery resection of coarcted segment and end-to-end anastomosis
or graft. |
