The Bangalore-based Workhardt Hospital and Heart Institute, the flagship heart hospital of the Wockhardt Hospitals group, has been accorded recognition as a teaching institution in cardiac sciences at the post-graduate level in medicine and specialisation in cardiac nursing.
The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has accredited the hospital to train post-graduate students for super-specialisation in cardiology/cardiac surgery. The course will culminate in Diplomate National Board (DNB) in cardiology and in Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) after the three-year long training.
NBE is a central government body that conducts post-graduate examinations in specialities and super-specialities for candidates trained at accredited institutions and confers the DNB qualification.
DNB is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as equivalent to DM (Card) and MCh (CVTS) offered by Indian universities.
On the accreditation, Vishal Bali, vice president, Wockhardt Hospitals said, "The accreditation enables our cardiac team to share its expertise with clinicians aspiring to be super-specialised cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. By imparting this expertise we are helping the community get access to better cardiac care."
The Wockhardt Institute of Medical Sciences, the academic arm of Wockhardt Hospitals, is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences for specialised BSc courses in cardiac care technology and cardiac operating room technology through an all India examination.
