India hosted its first international exhibition and conference on Biotechnology in February at the capital.

Biotech India 2003 was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The event brought together leading players of the industry from India and abroad. The event not only had state governments presenting their capabilities, but also drew international participation, with organisations from the US, Europe, Australia and Asia being present.

Wockhardt put up a magnificent stall at Biotech India 2003. The bright colourful stall supplemented the theme 'Healthcare is in our genes'. Large panels and a film presentation ably conveyed our comprehensive capabilities and expertise in Biotechnology. Led by Lalit Kumar, Executive Director, the International Marketing team attended to the delegates.
Our Chairman was invited to address the concluding session on the inaugural day of the conference Habil Khorakiwala mapped the future of Biotechnology and the increasing scope of its usage. Despite late start in the genomics race, India had the potential and the resources to make significant strides healthcare for the benefit of her people, he said. The following day, Dr, M K Sahib, Director - Genomi & Biotechnology Research, took a session on the' Promise of Therapeutic Humanised Monocior Antibodies in Healthcare'. The talk was found to be interesting and informative by the participants.
