Pressures and stress of day-to-day activities were high in the police and such issues need to be addressed, said Commissioner of Police, Narayan Nadamani.
He was speaking after inaugurating the cardiac screening camp conducted by Wockhardt Hospitals, Bangalore, for police personnel from Hubli and Dharwad region here on Saturday.
Nadumani said Wockhardt had taken the initiative to address the issues critical for the welfare of police personnel.
He advised Wockhardt to take the mission forward to other regions of north and coastal Karnataka so that it not only checks the challenge of heart disease but also boost the morale of the police force across the region.
Dr Venkatesh, senior cardiologist from Wockhardt, stressed the need for police personnel to take care of their health adding that care should be taken to exercise regularly and have nutritious and wholesome food.
Vishal Bali, chief executive, Wockhardt Group said it was an organised effort to combat heart disease while educating police officers on the need to prevent risk by creating awareness which was as critical as curing the disease.
Expressing his consent to the commissioner's suggestion to conduct similar programmes, he said Wockhardt plans to conduct similar cardiac screening camps in other district headquarters of north and coastal Karnataka exclusively for police personnel.
About a thousand police personnel underwent the screening procedure.
