Wockhardt Heart Hospital at Nagpur

Wockhardt Hospitals has made its first mark on the regional healthcare scene by launching the Wockhardt Heart Hospital in Nagpur.
"We have chosen to come to Nagpur, which is at the heart of India, with the objective of bringing the world's latest advances in cardiac care to central India," announced Habil Khorakiwala at a press conference in July.
Wockhardt Hospitals has taken over the management of Ekvira Heart Institute in Nagpur city. Dr. Vijaychandra Singh Bais, founder of the institute, and a reputed ENT surgeon in the US, says, "I realised that only a professional healthcare group with a successful track record in heart care could fulfil the vision with which Ekvira was started. I found that Wockhardt was the best Equipped to do so."
The hospital now has a modern cardiac cath lab for performing angiograms and angioplasties backed by operation theatres exclusively for heart surgery. The Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) with best-in-class monitoring systems, resuscitative devices and round-the-clock clinical expertise will ensure that patients will get treatment which matches the best heart centres in the country. Special attention has been given to ensure a 24-hour captive power back-up and a well equipped cardiac ambulance service, for the first time in Nagpur. Eminent cardiac surgeon Dr. K G Jayaprasanna, has joined the hospital as Consultant Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon. He has more than 15 years of national and international experience in cardiac surgery.
People in the Vidarbha region will now have access to comprehensive heart care, particularly in the area of heart surgery. They no longer need to travel to other cities for heart surgery. Our vision is to make Wockhardt Heart Hospital a leading regional cardiovascular centre in central India, which would also benefit patients from the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
According to cardiologists, Nagpur, and central India in general, are known for high incidence of heart disease; a majority of heart patients in Nagpur are under 50 years of age. Tobacco consumption, which can significantly contribute to the prevalence of the disease, is widespread in the region. "We see an immediate need for community education for preventing heart disease in this region," says Vishal Bali.
