World Heart Day is celebrated every year on the last Sunday of September in more than 75 countries. As the first super speciality hospital catering to Mumbai's suburbs, Wockhardt Heart Hospital (WHH) at Mulund took the initiative to reach out to the population by holding a series of health awareness programmes.

Over 4000 people in Mumbai's suburbs undergo free cholesterol check up

Over 4000 citizens from all walks of life in Mulund, Bhandup and Thane underwent a free health check up organized by WHH on September 29. The check up included total cholesterol, body mass index and waist to hip ratio.

Crowds throng Wockhardt's lectures on 'Preventing Cardiac risk'

Recently, free lectures by Wockhardt doctors on preventing heart disease at Thane and Mulund attracted large crowds. People from all walks of life, young and old, attended the lectures and actively participated in the discussions. The lectures were held at Thane and Mulund in October.

Interventional Cardiologists Dr. Anil Sharma and Dr. Jamshed Dalal were the keynote speakers at the Thane and Mulund meets respectively. Other WHH doctors who provided useful insight into preventing heart disease at the meets were Dr. S Narayani, Chief Pathologist, Dr. Sonia Rajani, Chief Physiotherapist, Dr. Purva Sheth, Chief Dietician, and Dr. Tushar Desai, General Manager.

The underlying message of the lectures was that maximum money today is spent on preventing complications after one develops cardiac disease. It is much cheaper and better to follow a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease in the 'first place. The lectures provided the audience with useful tips on cardiac risk factors, healthy diet, exercise and the importance of periodic check ups.
