Infection Control gets a fillip with employee awards

The Wards (Level 5) department wins the Johnson & Johnson Best Hand Hygiene Trophy. Sr. Bindu Nityanand, Head Nurse, accepts the award on behalf of the department

The 3M Rapid Infection Control Rotating Trophy is won by the Operation Theatres Department. Dr. John Helfrick gives away the award to a smiling Sr. Regina Raj, Nurse Manager.

Our Mumbai-based Wockhardt Hospitals has an infection control committee that has made fighting infection and creating employee awareness its mission. In the past year, the committee has organised various training and awareness meets for employees. It has also published a useful manual on infection control measures. Now the committee has instituted awards to motivate the hospital staff.

Dr. Parag Rindani, Consultant Microbiologist and Chairperson of the committee, says, "The objective is to develop and implement infection control protocol in the hospital and to ensure effective surveillance of hospital acquired infections. The awards will motivate employees to work towards an infection-free hospital."

Three departments won the awards for their stringent adherence to infection control practices for the first quarter. These were the Operation Theatres, Wards (Level 5) and the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In April, during the Harvard Medical International (HMI) team's visit to Mumbai. Dr. John Helfrick, a US practicing surgeon, gave away the awards to the happy winners.
