Wockhardt sets up Peenya's first heart care centre

Bangalore-based Wockhardt Hospital & Heart Institute (WHHI) has set up a comprehensive heart centre at the Ravi Kirloskar Memorial Hospital, the first such facility in Peenya, an industrial township of more than 1 million residents, in the state of Karnataka.

This association is an initiative from Wockhardt Hospitals to reach quality cardiac care to the community through a well-established community hospital. The new centre will provide the services of an Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU), Stress Test, Echocardiography and 24-hour cover by Wockhardt's cardiologists. Wockhardt will also provide training to the nursing staff of the ICCU, and to other paramedical staff.

"Wockhardt has found the right association in Ravi Kirloskar Memorial Hospital, which has been serving the community for more than 15 years," says Vishal Bali, Vice-President - Operations, Wockhardt Hospitals. "There have been several instances when distance has taken the lives of patients."

Vijay Kirloskar, Chairperson of the Kirloskar Charitable Trust, says, "There has been a long-standing need in this area for a specialised heart facility. It is a difficult task for a community hospital like ours to achieve the expertise and technology in this speciality. More than 100 patients undergo treatment at our hospital. We are happy to partner with Wockhardt Hospitals, who has offered both expertise and technology to set up the new center.
