March 8, widely celebrated as International Women's Day, was a day of much excitement for the ladies at the Wockhardt Hospital at Mumbai.
The hospital's Nursing Services and HRD departments organised a programme for the employees. A traditional dance by Wockhardians provided the right start to the event. Judith Varma, Chief of Nursing Services, introduced the theme 'Women working in solidarity: Human Rights and Peace' for the discussion to follow. The panel, which had six nurses and chaired by Rebecca D'Souza, ICU In-charge, discussed issues concerning the girl-child through various stages of her life. A skit on 'A Mother's Management Styles' received rave reviews from the gathering of Wockhardians. The skit showed two methods of management, one used by the traditional mother (whose skills comprised materials, events, accounts and labour management) and the other used by the modern or working mother (with skills of zero inventory, event outsourcing, acquisition and leisure management).
Dr. Lloyd Nazareth, WHH's General Manager, Ramchandra Rao, Head - HR (Hospitals) and Dr. Rohit Mody, Consultant Cardiologist, spoke on the need to empower women so that they do not become victims of violence and discrimination. Two songs sung by the ladies 'I'm only human, I'm just a woman' and 'Mother of mine' added soulfulness to the event.
