Dr. Sonal Kumta completed her M.D. from the prestigious B.Y.L. Nair Charitable Hospital , Mumbai University with a Bombay University Gold Medal.

Then, she trained as a Clinical assistant at Babies and Us Fertility, IVF and ICSI Centre at Lilavati Hospital Bombay from March 2001 till March 2002. This included artificial reproductive techniques like IUI, IVF, ICSI, assisted laser hatching, blastocyst cuture, embryo-semen cryopreservation, egg and embryo donation programmes. She also worked at the advanced genetic unit where prenatal genetics and preimplantation genetics in the form of FISH, PCR and Computerised Karyotyping is carried out.

To further her skills she visited the department of Endoscopy ,University of KIEL , Germany in Nov 2003 & acquired a Diploma in Gynaec Endoscopy. She also attended a training course in reproductive medicine & infertility treatment in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaec , University of KIEL ,Germany

She also was an observer at the very reputed Fertility Centre Hamburg, Germany and was privileged to work with Dr. Olaf Naether & Prof. Rudolf during her stay.

• Received Dr. C. G. Saraiya and Dr. Mangaldas Mehta Gold Medals for having ranked first in the Bombay University for M.D. Obstetrics & Gynaec Jan 2001.
• Received Dr. N. A. Purandare Memorial prize for securing highest points on aggregate in M.D Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jan 2001.
• Distinction in Anatomy, at the First MBBS , in Forensic Medicine at the Second MBBS and Obstetrics and
• Gynaecology in Third MBBS examination.
