Dr. Gowri Shankar is a native of Bangalore and graduated from Bangalore Medical College. He obtained his Masters degree in General Surgery from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore and went on to complete his postdoctoral course (M.Ch) in Pediatric Surgery from Mumbai University. He was awarded the best outgoing registrar among all super-specialty courses in Lokmanya Tilak Medical College. He also has the Diplomate in Pediatric Surgery awarded by the National Board of Examinations to his credit.
After his return to Bangalore, he joined the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health where he is also working as Faculty in the department of Pediatric Surgery which is currently one of the fore-most post-graduate training centers in Pediatric Surgery.
He has presented several scientific papers in various state, national and international conferences and has authored many scientific papers in reputed journals. He was selected by the Japanese society of Pediatric Surgeons for the traveling fellowship for paper presentation at their 42nd annual conference.
He is well versed in the management of basic and advanced level of surgical problems in chilDr.en, including hepatobiliary, GIT, non-cardiac thoracic and pediatric urological conditions. He is also specialized in endosurgical techniques like endo-urology and pediatric bronchoscopy.
