GYNAECOLOGY
Laparoscopic Procedure for Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a medical condition in women in which endometriam(lining of the uterus, preventing adhesions between the opposed walls) like cells appear and flourish in areas outside the uterine cavity. Most common places for where endometriosis are found are ovaries(Choclate cyst), Ovarian fossa, utero sacral ligaments and the bladder. The most common symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain. The pain often correlates to the menstrual cycle, but a woman with endometriosis may also experience pain that doesn’t correlate to her cycle. A small incision is first made into the patient's abdomen in or near the belly button and the pelvic organ is examined for endometrial growths or adhesions . Laser or electrical currents are used to remove or destroy the endometrial growth or alternatively the implant may be cut away with surgical knife.
Laproscopic Sterilization
Sterilization is surgery performed to prevent a woman from getting pregnant. It is meant to be permanent. Sterilization often is done with a technique called laparoscopic ally, where both fallopian tubes are blocked by tying, sealing, or attaching a ring or clip to them. The egg then cannot move down the tube and the sperm cannot reach the egg. This prevents pregnancy.
Diagnostic Hysteroscopy
It is a procedure that allows a gynecologist to look inside the uterus. The hysteroscopy is a long tube, about the size of a straw, which has a built-in viewing device. It is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the cavity of the uterus (endometrial cavity). The uterine cavity is then distended with fluid and visualized. Hysteroscopy is useful for diagnosing and treating some problems that cause infertility, miscarriages, and abnormal menstrual bleeding. Sometimes other procedures, such as laparoscopy, are done at the same time as hysteroscopy.
Dilation and Curretage
The dilation and curettage procedure is called D&C. The D stands for dilation, enlarging and Curettage means scraping. Together, this procedure involves expanding or enlarging the entrance of a woman's uterus so that a thin, sharp instrument can scrape or suction away the lining of the uterus and take tissue samples. D&C is often used for the following conditions:
• Irregular bleeding
• Too much bleeding
• Fibroids and Polyps
• Endometrial cancer
Laparoscopic Ovarian Cystectomy
An ovarian cyst is a sac filled with liquid or semi-liquid material arising in an ovary. It can vary in size from 5cm to 30cm. The finding of an ovarian cyst causes considerable anxiety for women because of the fear of malignancy, but the vast majority of ovarian cysts are non cancerous. Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy is an option for women with non cancerous ovarian cysts.
During laparoscopy, a very small incision is made near the belly button to insert the laparoscope. Through two more small incisions in the abdomen the cyst along with its contents is removed and the incisions are closed.
Laparoscopic cystectomy is a much less physically traumatic procedure and recovery is faster. It is likely that you will experience abdominal pain for three or four days after a laparoscopy, but for seven to ten days if you have had traditional abdominal surgery.
Medical termination of Pregnancy
Medical termination pregnancy is the removal of the products of conception. This is done by suction evacuation .This procedure is done to control the pregnancy related intractable genital bleeding.
